WITCHER star Freya Allan has revealed how she was captivated by Ireland after she came here to film her first major role at the age of just 14.
Ms Allan who plays the key role of Princess Cirilla in the hit series on Netflix – opposite Superman actor Henry Cavill – is set to see her profile soar this year as she has the lead role in horror film Baghead, as well as a role in the latest instalment of the hugely popular Planet of the Apes franchise.
As such she has come a long way since arriving in Ireland as a teenager, when she appeared in an episode of the postapocalyptic series, Into the Badlands.
That was set against the stunning backdrop of the Wicklow Mountains and starred our own Orla Brady.
Witcher fans more used to seeing her with plaited platinum blonde locks may have to take a double-take on seeing the flame-haired teen Freya.
Ms Allan said of her time shooting here: ‘I didn’t really get to see much of Ireland, so I’d love to go back and actually get to properly experience it.
‘I guess that’s a special place [for me], because my first, kind of, TV job was out there [in Ireland].’
Recalling her time here, she added: ‘I think I was 14, so that was years ago. I’m 22 now. I went with my mom and we didn’t really get to see much of it, because it was just like, in and out really, for the shoot.
‘But that was the first TV role I got, and I remember thinking it was my big break. I was like: “This is the best thing ever.”’
Ms Allan’s star has risen dramatically since her first big acting job. Later this year she will appear in the latest film in the Planet of the Apes universe, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
It is slated for release in May, with Ms Allan starring alongside big name stars such as William H Macy, Owen Teague, Peter Macon and
Kevin Durand.
Ms Allan said she ‘can’t really say anything about the film because I’ll be shot. I can’t wait to for people to see it.’
