Former RTÉ comedy Damo and Ivor’s social media being used to broadcast far-right rhetoric

- By Niamh Walsh GROUP SHOWBUSINESS EDITOR

A SOCIAL media channel for RTÉ’s now-defunct Damo & Ivor comedy series has launched a blistering broadside against the national broadcaster and is calling for people to withhold their licence fee.

The show was created by and starred Andy Quirke, heir to the Dr. Quirkey’s slot machine empire founded by his father, former garda Richard Quirke. His brother Wes is married to former Miss World Rosanna Davidson.

The official Damo & Ivor Facebook page posted a series of inflammatory far-right posts.

‘RTÉ has been taken over, anyone still paying a licence fee needs their head examined, why would you pay for propaganda!’ the page says.

It continues: ‘The corrupt government needs taken down’.

‘The government has been infiltrated by “world economic forum young global leaders” – a new form of war to take over countries by penetrating governments worldwide.

‘All media companies and radio stations across Ireland are bought up by German mega media companies to pump out nonstop World Economic Forum “CRISIS” propaganda...

‘When a government is ignoring its citizens on all topics, creating nonstop “crisis” pushing blatant propaganda and flooding the country with known criminals that attack and kill the native people.

‘This is an act of war.

‘I think some people don’t understand how serious this corrupt government and media is for the future of Ireland, there needs to be a REVOLUTION! otherwise Ireland is gone! Irish culture is gone! All human rights, ownership, privacy and freedom of speech is gone FOREVER!

‘Irish Revolution is coming. This whole government and media is getting f***ed out and we are taking back this country.

‘Get those Irish flags and bunting up everywhere lads.’

Damo & Ivor, first shown in 2013, is still available to view on the RTÉ player. When queried on the statements, RTÉ said that while it was aware of the claims, it had no response.

Andy Quirke did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
