PRESENTER, actor, and now television drama writer Baz Ashmawy says he’s reached the stage of his life where he’s simply not bothered what anyone thinks of him.

The 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy star was speaking ahead of the premier broadcast of his first drama, Faithless.

Ashmawy has hosted several radio TV shows, is an award-winning producer and has to juggle a fairly hectic family life.

So he says he won’t be too bothered if the critics don’t take to his first foray into the world of drama.

Baz – who also stars in the new show – told the Irish Mail on Sunday: ‘I think you just have to stop caring what other people think, and you just have to do the things that you really want to do.’

The 48-year-old said: ‘I don’t know whether it’s age or whatever, but you just have to take a chance. A lot of people said to me: “Don’t do it – you’ll never get it made”.

‘Everyone told me a million reasons not to pursue it. And there probably were… but there were a million reasons to give it a shot.’

His latest drama, which airs on Virgin Media Ireland from tomorrow night, is described as ‘a comedic, honest and insightful look at an emerging Ireland, with its multi-cultural facets and challenges’.

He told the MoS: ‘I have failed at so many things, I’m at a point now where I don’t fear failing at stuff. I think I’ve got over the fear of failure.’

He believes family is what really counts, and having the support of the leading women in his life; wife Tanja – with whom who he has been with since 2006 (together they have six children between them) – and his mother Nancy.
