‘Gatecrasher’ ejected from Wembley Royal Box
A MAN was frogmarched out of Wembley’s Royal Box following Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea last Sunday. Diners looked on with shock when guards quickly and unceremoniously ejected a man who witnesses said had pestered Liverpool officials in the VIP area. Football Association officials insist there was no security breach and that the man had been invited by a legitimate guest, although would not reveal who that was.
They added that the man had subsequently been ejected because he had failed to comply with the dress code for the area, the most exclusive section of the iconic venue where Sir Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and chairman Tom Werner were celebrating Jurgen Klopp’s side’s 1-0 win.
That version seems significantly at odds with witnesses who spoke of the man they believed to be a gatecrasher striding past Chelsea officials including chairman Todd Boehly and noisily confronting the Anfield contingent demanding autographs and selfies.
Onlookers wondered how the individual had managed to evade various levels of security to gain access to the Royal Box. They claim the alarm was quickly raised and that security staff abruptly frogmarched the man out.
The situation unfolded in the same week Wembley bosses sat down with UEFA counterparts to discuss security arrangements for June’s Champions League Final. Following the carnage that marred the 2021 European Championship Final, eyebrows may well be raised at this development.
Initially, FA officials said no such incident was flagged to them in the debrief after the game.
They subsequently said the man was invited into the suite by a guest and asked to leave when it became clear he was in breach of the dress code.
