FOREVER TRENDS
Dublin icon Arnotts has been right at the heart of style and trends for generations and its Spring Summer 2024 collection showcase was full of wearable staples that will fit any occasion and work hard with your own wardrobe
Dublin retailer Arnotts has just showcased its Spring Summer 2024 collections across womenswear, menswear and accessories, presenting a blend of style and sophistication to woo shoppers.
It was the store’s first show since the premises was broken into last November during the
Dublin riots, and an expression of the indomitable spirit that has seen Arnotts survive the Rising, two World Wars and countless recessions since it first opened its doors in 1843. Life and fashion go on despite the obstacles that arise and the mood at Arnotts was positive yet pragmatic for the new season.
Arnotts has always excelled at interpreting seasonal trends in a very wearable way. This season, with a strong emphasis on
‘real clothing’ and staple pieces that will integrate into your wardrobe, Arnotts’ spring edit was an injection of freshness tempered with reality for a new season reboot. Customers want newness but, given the uncertain times, they also want pieces that will earn their keep.
Trends showcased included ethereal Porcelain White as seen in Sister Jane’s sweet short bubble dress and pilgrim collar mini as well as Stella Nova’s quirky motif jacket. If you want your whites to be glam rather than girlish, then Marella’s combo of duster coat over a minimal dress, Max Mara’s crisp white trouser suit or its Weekend label’s trench coat over a satin dress with accordion pleat detail, are all classically beautiful and oozing elegance. Just keep the dry-cleaner on speed dial.
The laid-back chic of Summer Utility (perhaps the key summer trend) was showcased by Weekend Max Mara’s shirt dress in contrasting stripe panels, their boxy toffee leather jacket paired with wide easy shorts, or their cropped shacket and wide leg trouser co-ordinates in dark khaki green. Preppy elegance was referenced in the Polo Club trend, as embodied by Max and Co’s varsity jacket with contrasting sleeves and trim details.
Although it was a summer show, the timeless allure of black was to the fore in the Back To Black theme in a range of garments including Anne Louise Boutique’s LBD with an extended shoulder-line, Stine Goya’s jacquard tux jacket, and Self Portrait’s fitted dress with a dramatic neckline and a silver accent. Black and white was also strong with Essentiel Antwerp’s black and white polka dot midi with an asymmetrical neckline and Tara Jarmon’s heart motif dress and jacket duo.
For those who crave colour and pattern, the upbeat Spring Reveal story typified by Danish labels Stine Goya and Ganni who showed effervescent, expressive blooms in multi-hued shades ranging from pretty pastels to vivid saturated jewel tones will be the favourite. Dream Sister Janes’s multi coloured floral maxi on a dark background was striking, while Ganni’s pink rose jacquard midi would be ideal for any special occasion yet could also be worn for dinner or drinks.
Arnotts introduce 13 new brands this season including Calvin Klein (whose campaign is fronted by Kendall Jenner), sustainable Irish brand FÉRÍ, colourful Irish knitwear label Urban Aran, as well as A Lilac Tale, Bardot and Rains. Simone Perele swimwear, Empreinte swimwear, Greek Archaic Kori and the boho collection by Devotion Twins are perfect for sunseekers. There are also new accessory brands Mario Valentino, Diesel, Dragon, Rains, and Summery. For menswear, the new edit includes Eleventy, Daily Paper, New Era, and Hide & Jack.
