Warnings over ‘no-cut facelifts’

- By Daisy Graham-Brown news@mailonsunday.ie

HUNDREDS of women are warning that their faces have been shockingly disfigured by a beauty treatment hailed by stars including Strictly judge Shirley Ballas and tennis coach Judy Murray.

The Morpheus8 device uses heat and microscopic needles to tighten skin and is billed as a non-surgical facelift. Both Ballas and Murray have sworn by the antiageing results in interviews.

But the Mail on Sunday can reveal that many women have suffered devastating scars from the treatment, which can cost €650 a session in Ireland.

Others complain of having seen fat ‘melted’ in their face and feeling ‘violated’ with many paying thousands more to have the scars removed by lasers. Made In Chelsea star and socialite Melissa Tattam, 27, said she was left with ‘scarring all over my face’ after receiving the treatment last year.

She said: ‘I did it for anti-ageing and skin tightening purposes but my skin was perfect. I had no pores, no spots... nothing. And now I have scars in the shapes of the needles all over my cheeks. I really regret doing this. If you’re thinking of having it done please consider the side effects.’

Ms Tattam is now using laser treatment to reduce the appearance of the scarring. Her aesthetician Elena Cudworth, who runs Elenique Skin Clinic in London, warned that many clinicians do not know how to use Morpheus8 devices properly.

She said: ‘We have had quite a few women contact us with similar reactions. Local authorities should be monitoring the level of qualifications and experience of those operating the Morpheus8 device.

‘Women have been scarred and lost their confidence. It’s stopped them going out or going to work,’ Ms Cudworth added.

InMode, the Israeli company that developed the Morpheus8 device, is currently being sued in the US for allegedly deceiving customers and violating Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations by ‘engaging in off-label marketing’ and promoting products for treatments ‘for which they lack FDA approval’.
