Internationally renowned Killarney

-

OF all the towns in Ireland, Killarney is one of the most internationally renowned destinations.

The American crooner, Bing Crosby, asked in his song, “How can you buy Killarney?” with the answer of course, being that it’s priceless.

The Lakes of Killarney are a worldwide sensation; Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrantuohill, is a stone’s throw away amid the majestic Magillycuddy’s Reeks; natural and homegrown produce is a staple in many of Killarney’s eateries and the town is central to the area’s thriving arts scene.

With such an abundance of natural beauty and cultural richness to offer, it’s no wonder that Killarney attracts a huge amount of visitors every year from around the country and around the globe. It is a town steeped in history and yet it offers all the modern conveniences both to the holidaymaker and the business traveller. There are various accommodation options available, from 5-star hotels and luxury bed and breakfasts to hostels and camping for the budget conscious. In close proximity to Cork and Kerry airports, it is easily accessible and serves as a gateway to many of the other gorgeous attractions that Kerry has to offer.

But visitors don’t have to go to venture outside of Killarney if they’d prefer to relax. A leisurely visit to Ross Castle or Muckross House and Gardens is a good way to spend the afternoon; a jovial horse and car ride is always fun and shopping sprees and spa retreats are also an option.

Killarney is the town where horseracing enthusiasts convene, fashion fanatics congregate, artists entertain, food lovers think they’re in heaven, the frazzled and harried relax and families spend precious time together. It’s where nature lovers get hooked, historians are in in awe, young people enjoy the nightlife and the long-lost diaspora feel like they’ve come home.

Most of all, Killarney is the place where people come to understand that the Irish welcome – the Cead Mile Failte- is not just the stuff of legend: It is an innate warmth that exists in the people and it keeps the visitors coming year after year.

Looking ahead to this season, it’s clear that Killarney has again planned a great year for locals and visitors alike.
