COUNTY JUNIOR CHAMPIONSH­IP Scartaglen entertaine­d Duagh in the opening round of the Castleisla­nd Co-op Mart Junior Championsh­ip on Sunday last. This was a low scoring lack lustre scrappy game played in Summer like conditions at Pat Casey Memorial Park. Duagh stole the spoils with virtually the last kick of the match when scoring a point from a free. It ended Duagh 0-5 Scartaglen 0-4. Scart played with the wind in the opening half,opened the scoring with a point from a free after 8 minutes. Duagh equalised three minutes later. Two further points for Scart from Mike Horan from play in the 22nd minute and 24th minute and one for Duagh saw the halftime score reading Scartaglen 0-3 Duagh 0-2. Denis Lenihan scored a point from a free for Scart in the 40th minute and at the three quarter stage Duagh had another point from a free which made it 0-4 to 0-3 at that point of the game. Duagh drew level with a point from play in the 50th minute and on the stroke of full time they availed of the opportunit­y to score another point from a 45 from the boot of Luke O Donnell which saw them advance to the next round. Scartaglen were without the services of Padraig Reidy whilst Duagh were missing Kerry midfield star Anthony Maher.
