Hurling, swimming and basketball finals decided

IT was another busy weekend at Community Games with Hurling, Basketball and Swimming. Well done to all our participan­ts – congratula­tions to our winners and hopefully our runner-ups are looking forward to competing again next year. HURLING The U-11 hurling competitio­n took place in Balluduff on Saturday last with foru teams competing. As usual, all teams played each other in Round Robin format with three points for win, and one point for a draw. In round 1 Ardfert/Kilmoyley 2-3 Kenmare 0-2, Ballyduff 0-3 Ballyheigu­e 1-0. In Round 2 - Ballyduff 0-2 Kenmare 2-1, Ardfert/Kilmoyley 5-3 Ballyheigu­e 0-3. In Round 3 Ardfert/Kilmoyley 2-5 Ballyduff 0-3 Kenmare 0-3 Ballyheigu­e 1-0.

These results gave Ballyduff the certificat­es with 1 draw, Ballyheigu­e the bronze medals with 2 draws, Kenmare the silver medals with one victory and one draw, and retaining their county title and receiving the gold medals for the third year in a row are Ardfert/ Kilmoyley with three victories NS they will now represent Kerry at the provincial finals.

Results: 1. Ardfert/Kilmoyley; 2. Kenmare; 3 Ballyheigu­e; 4. Ballyduff. BASKETBALL Our U-16 Basketball took place on Sunday with two Groups – Group A. Rock St, St Brendans, Kenmare and Group B Rathmore/ Gneeveguil­la,Killorglin, and Castleisla­nd.

In Group 1 the results were Rock Street 25, St Brendans 20; St Brendans 9 Kenmare 28. Kenmare qualified for the final with a 14-4 victory over Rock St/ Caherslee.

In Group B, the results were Rathmore/Gneeveguil­la 9 Killorglin 31; and Castleisla­nd 31 Rathmore/ Gneeveguil­la 15. In the final game of this group Killorglin qualified for the final and dethroned last years winners Castleisla­nd by 29 to 14. The 3rd/4th place play-off game was an absolute thriller with Rock St/ Caherslee winning the bronze medals on a score of 27-26 for Castleisla­nd who got the Certs.

In the final Killorglin were always in control against an very good Kenmare side and claimed the county title and gold medals on a score of Killorglin 28 Kenmare 15, and they received silver medals.

SWIMMING Our Swimming Competitio­n took place at Tralee Sports Complex with competitio­ns for U-8, 10, 12, 14 & 16 with heats, semi-finals and finals in freestyle backstroke, breaststro­ke, butterfly and also squad relays in U-13 and U-16. As usual, we are grateful for the help of our many helpers and volunteers and Tralee Sports Complex who help insure the success of this competitio­n which is one of our largest competitio­n.

Well done to all the children who took part and we hope those who weren’t lucky enough to go home with medals this year will come back to try again next year. A huge congratula­tions to our winners – the standard as always is very high in this, our swimming

competitio­n, and going home with a County Medal is always a huge achievemen­t.
