Classic FC B 1 Annascaul FC ‘B’ 1 A REPLAY was the outcome here as the sides could not be seperated in an entering game at sunny Mounthawk Park on Sunday.

Both sides showed a lot of creativity with chances being manufactured at both ends of the field. Classic created a good early chance with Padraig Breen making a great run down the wing and crossing the ball to Jerry Foley, but his shot was saved by Annascaul keeper Jamie Finn.

Annascaul began to go on the offensive but efforts on goal by Tommy Smith, Peter McGovern and Paddy Daly failed to yield any favourable, outcome. A nicely despatched corner kick by Tommy Pierce found Peter McGovern but his effort on goal was snuffed out by Brendan Smyth.

Classic forced a series of corners kick just before half-time, which yielded nothing and the game was delicately balanced at the interval.

An Eoin Colgan free kick for Classic just fizzed narrowly wide at the start of the second half while Noel Flahive squandered a chance for Annascaul after great build up play by Paddy Daly and Jerry Foley.

Classic can thank their keeper Pa Bailey for keeping them in the game with a few great saves. However, all the pressure eventually paid off for Annascaul just before the hour mark when John Bowler sent Jerry Foley free into space with a well placed pass.

He used his speed to see off two defenders and after turning another he managed to squeeze the ball past the advancing Classic keeper from an acute angle.

Now Classic went all out in search of an equaliser and it came in the 82nd minute when a long range effort by Darren O’Sullivan was blocked by Annascual keeper Jamie Finn but unfortunately for him the ball took a ferocious spin and went over the line.
