BRILLIANT WEATHER

The brilliant weather here in recent times is most welcome by both man and beast. Life has really returned to the countryside with much activity on the land and herds of cattle grazing lush pastures everywhere. By all accounts milk production is exceeding all previous supply and along with state of affairs cattle prices especially calves have gone through the roof. The pig trade continues to be up and down its nice to be able to report that the pig in the tub and the home made pudding are still part of living here in the gateway to the Kingdom.

RALLY

Locals were out in force on Sunday last at various vantage points as car after car sped by in the Fells Point Kerry Rally. The route of this rally differed somewhat from other years as it did not come through the centre of this parish. There were a number of near misses on a number of short corners.

FIRES

Last week was a record for gorse fires mostly on the outline hills and mountainsides. The most destruction appeared in the Knockatee district. There is no doubt but wildlife suffered greatly in the fires.

ROAD RACE

The young and not so young competed in the 5K road race run off on Saturday last in the village and its hinderland. Weather most favourable prevailed for the event. It was in aid of a fundraiser for Loughfouder National School.

THE MALL ADVANCE

The local Knocknagoshel senior team advanced to the next round of the Novice County Championship on Sunday last, when they defeated Sneem/ Derrynane at Willie Walsh Park.
