‘Performance of the Meet’ award for Laura Crowe at Leevale meet
THERE were great performances at the Leevale 2015 Track and Field meet last weekend with Laura Crowe (An Riocht) receiving the women’s ‘Performance of the Meet’ award on Saturday for her convincing run in the women’s 800m, which she won in 2:07.50.
Shona Heaslip had a great run to win the women’s 3,000m a clear seven seconds ahead of second place with Maria McCarthy (Farranfore Maine Valley) finishing in 4th place in the same event.
Kayleigh Cronin (Farranfore Maine Valley) won silver in Ladies discus and there was also silver for Mairead O’Neill (Gneeveguilla) in the Women’s hammer, just ahead of Aoife Doyle (Star of the Laune) who won the bronze medal.
In the men’s hammer gold went to Adam King (Iveragh) with Tomas O’Neill (Gneeveguilla) in second place.
There were some great performances from Tralee Harrier athletes – Aoife O’Carroll came 5th in both the women’s 100m and 200m sprints, in what were very competitive races and Aoibheann O’Brien finished 4th in the women’s long jump.
Sunday saw our juvenile athletes in action. Fiona Doyle (Star of the Laune) was the only gold medal winner on the day when she took top spot in the U15 girls 800m.
There were silver medals for Jack O’Leary (Gneeveguilla) in the boys U13 600m, Francis Cronin (Gneeveguilla) in the U15 boys 800m, Katelyn Reid (An Riocht) in the U14 girls high jump and Rachel Bowler (Tralee Harriers) in the U17 girls long jump.
Bronze medals went to Oisin O’Leary (Gneeveguilla) in the U8 boys 60m and Stephanie Reid (An Riocht) in the U9 girls turbo javelin.
