Kilcummin opened the scoring with a Chris O’Leary point from play, but Dingle quickly responded through Paul Geaney. Indeed, Geaney was the pivotal figure in the Dingle attack and it was he who forced two outstanding saves from Brendan Kealy in the Kilcummin goal Both resulted in pointed ‘45’s from Mikey Geaney.

Kevin McCarthy, who was tormenting the Dingle defence, was Kilcummin’s main danger and he scored two outstanding points from play in that first half.

Gavin Curran and Matthew Flaherty created considerable difficulty for Kilcummin’s backs with their incisive running. The half time score was Kilcummin 0-5 Dingle 0-8.

Kilcummin started the second half the livelier, with Shane McSweeney forcing an excellent save from Sean Flaherty in the Dingle goal and Brendan Kealy slotting the resulting ‘45’.

The next 20 minutes were closely contested with Cathal Bambury, Paul Geaney and Matthew Flaherty adding to Dingle’s points total, while points from Kevin McCarthy (2), Damien O’Leary, Kelvin Teahan and Ger Sheehan (free) left the minimum between the sides with ten minutes left.

Dingle’s Barry O’Sullivan and Brendan Kelleher added two points to leave Kilcummin looking for a goal to stay in the competition.

In the last few minutes Kilcummin drove forward in a determined effort, but Dingle’s defence stood firm and referee Denis Sayers issued three black cards to Dingle and one to Kilcummin.
