Lispole 1-19 Moyvane 4-6

THE conclusion of the game bore no real resemblance to its overall context, but Lispole will be happy to have overcome the first hurdle in their bid to return to the Novice decider after a late flurry of goals for Moyvane put a far more respectable look on proceedings from the North Kerry side’s point of view.

Last year’s runners-up built their success on a good use of a firsthalf breeze that had them eight points ahead of their opponents.

Both Declan O’Sullivan (firsthalf) and Tom Kavanagh (second-half) were in imperious scoring form for the West Kerry side registering a combined total of 0-14 of their 1-19 total as Moyvane found the jump in standard from Division 5 of the County League (where they have won their first three games) to championship level a lot more difficult last Saturday evening.

Lispole scored the first six points of proceedings before Kevin Kennelly finally got Moyvane’s first point in the 15th minute. Declan O’Sullivan scored six of the hosts total in the first-half, but Kieran O’Sullivan got their goal just before half-time as after being put through by Kavanagh and Gareth Noonan, his shot could only be parried by Brendan Galvin into the Moyvane net.

The visitors did have a goal before the short whistle themselves when a Timmy Noonan effort was misjudged by Conor Hanafin and ended up going over the goal line. However Lispole’s half-time lead was 1-10 to 1-2.

Tom Kavanagh scored five points in the second-half as they had a lead of 1-15 to 1-3 after 43 minutes.

Brendan Galvin had to save well to stop them scoring two further goals in the second period but a second goal for Noonan started a mini-revival for Moyvane in the 46th minute. Substitute Diarmuid Leahy fisted in a third goal with three minutes left before Noonan completed his hat-trick in the third minute of injury time.

All the late goals did though was make the final margin a lot more respectable a loss for Moyvane at four points and they will certainly hope to learn for this experience heading towards the next round of

County League fixtures.
