Irish paper goes down a treat
SOUTH KERRY REACTION TO LEAVING CERT FINDS THE EXAM ‘VERY FAIR’
REACTION to this year’s Leaving Cert has been largely positive so far in the south of the county.
In Killarney, St Brendan’s Principal Seán Coffey has described the tests posed so far as ‘very fair’.
“Maths paper two had some unusual elements, and was tougher than paper one which is not normally the case. But overall it’s been a very positive experience for most of the lads, and there’s been nothing unfair thrown at them,” Mr Coffey said.
Róisín Moore, Principal at St. Brigid’s Secondary School, said a welcome air of calm came over the school with the start of last week’s exams, and hasn’t left since:
“Remarkably, no paper has caused the girls much trouble so far. The Irish paper was particularly welcomed. We’ve probably had more complaints from Junior Certs in relation to their maths paper, but overall they’re very happy as well.”
“There was a bit of tension prior to the start of exams, but the girls this year seem a pretty calm bunch, and they’re taking it all in their stride.”
At Intermediate School Killorglin, Principal Kieran Griffin was in agreement with Mr Coffey and Ms Moore.
“The students were very happy with their Irish paper yesterday (Tuesday), and that’s been the general reaction to all the papers up to now.
“Everything’s been manageable, and they’ve dealt with things very professionally,” Mr Griffin added.
Coláiste na Sceilge’s Principal John O’Connor said that ‘some aspects of the English papers were quite challenging’, but was nonetheless very happy overall.
“They were delighted with the Irish paper, and that’s following the pattern of this year’s papers – the students are very happy.”
“Today (Tuesday) was a tiring day for many with both Maths and Biology being faced. But overall the scheduling is much fairer than it was before, and some of our students will even be finished in the next two days, which is great.”
