Municipal district council meeting to be held in River Island Hotel

-

A FAMOUS local dog and his owner / trainer will be the headline acts at the Killarney Municipal Area meeting at the River Island Hotel on this Wednesday from 10am.

The hotel is the venue for the meeting of members of the Killarney Municipal District Council at 10am.

One of the first items on the agenda has a distinctly local flavour. A reception to honour Noel Browne, owner and trainer of this year’s Irish Coursing Derby, Coolavanny Bingo.

The agenda brings with it a full range of business for the day.

Flooding in the areas of the River Maine, Kilbanivane and in Tullig and the recurrence thereof will be among the top local issues on the day and these are being raised by both Mayor Bobby O’Connell and Cllr Maura Healy Rae.

Ms Healy Rae is also raising the issue of a traffic warden on College Road – a matter which resident, Michael Burke keeps hammering away at.

The following is a list of questions of local concern and under various headings - and their sponsors - which are down for today’s meeting.

9. Cllr. B. O’Connell: “That Kerry County Council give an update on the flood and drainage remedial works at Tullig and Kilbanivane, Castleisland.”

12. Cllr. B. O’Connell: “That Kerry County Council give an update on the closure of the storage yard adjacent to the viewing area at Dooneen, Castleisland.”

25. Cllr. M. Healy-Rae: “To ask Kerry County Council to provide a pedestrian crossing for the safety of parents, teachers and children accessing the school in College Road, Castleisland.”

37. Cllr. M. Healy-Rae: “To ask Kerry County Council and the OPW to dredge the Maine River in Castleisland from Tullig where the new culvert is to be placed down past the Community College, out beyond Garveys and out beyond the Sewerage Plant as far as the Tralee Road to ensure that the community college and the area around Tonbwee does not get flooded again.

2. Cllr. M. Healy-Rae: “Has Kerry County Council sought funding for a School Traffic Warden at (a) College Road, Castleisland (b) Fossa National School?”

38. Cllr. M. Healy-Rae: “To ask Kerry County Council what route is the water from Kilbanivane Graveyard in Castleisland to be taken? Local people are saying it should be taken Westward towards the Limerick Road, otherwise it will exacerbate the town.”
