A ‘BIG’ night out at Tralee open air cinema
EVEN the impending threat of rain couldn’t dampen the excited spirits of the hundreds of people that gathered in Pearse Park in Tralee on Friday evening to watch an open air cinema screening all, which had been organised the excellent Kerry Film Festival (KFF) team.
Now in its second year of touring the county, the screenings are going from strength to strength as families, friends and couples were amongst the eventual 400-strong crowd that gathered together to watch the classic Tom Hank’s 80’s film ‘Big’.
The first of the crowd started to arrive very early in the evening, no doubt to try and snag themselves the best seats in the house, armed with an array of blankets, sleeping bags, folding chairs and an assortment of food and drinks.
“We were absolutely delighted with the turnout, with the rain threatening and the heavy skies we were so glad that the rain just about held off,” said Margaret Brosnan of KFF.
“Judging by the response on social media, it’s been met with a fantastic response, capturing the hearts and minds of all ages. The films we show are appealing to such a wide audience. It’s wonderful to see parents bring kids to see the films they grew up watching,” Margaret finished.
There was soon a great hush as the screen lit up the darkness and everyone got settled down to enjoy the film and a very different night way of enjoying a Friday night. The next open air cinema screening – of ‘ The Princess Bride’ - takes place at Muckross House in Killarney next Friday night.
