Register now for Run Killarney as interest is brisk

ADVENTUROU­S spirits wishing to take part in this year’s Gleaneagle Run Killarney are being urged to register for the event early as just a limited number of places remain for the run on Saturday, July, 23.

Event organiser, Oliver Kirwin, who is anticipati­ng a “festival-like atmosphere” believes the event will have a very important impact on the town.

“Events like this are brilliant for the town, promoting a healthy lifestyle and showcasing the best that the Killarney has to offer”, he said.

The bucolic surroundin­gs of Muckross House and the Killarney National Park will provide the backdrop for participan­ts as they navigate their way along the half marathon and 10k routes.

A large field is expected and runners are being encouraged to attend regardless of their ability.

“It is open to everyone - men and women alike, walkers, newcomers and people who just want a challenge and a great day out, the routes give competitor­s the chance to run one of the world’s most breath taking and scenic road races” Mr Kirwan added.

The routes have been described by event organisers as representi­ng “fun, fast and friendly racing for everyone”, with one “fast downhill course with amazing scenery”.

Molls Gap is the starting point for the half marathon which commences at 8.30 and transport will be arranged for runners to their point of departure, from The Gleneagle Hotel between 7 and 7.30am. The 10k run will begin at 10am from the same location, manwhile.

A team of eight pacemakers will run the route with the aim of helping participan­ts achieve their desired finishing time.

The registrati­on cost for the half marathon is €55, while the half marathon is priced at €25.

All competitor­s will receive a customized t-shirt and finisher’s medal.
