Kingdom Veteran Vintage & Classic Car Club annual run

-

MEMBERS of the Kingdom Veteran Vintage & Classic Car Club have been pooling their strengths with the owners of equally classic motor-bikes to boost their charity take from their annual runs.

Their seventh annual ‘Ballymac Car & Honda Run’ will leave Ó Riada’s Bar on Friday week, July 22 at 7pm.

The event is free-to-enter and a voluntary donation charity bucket system will be in operation on behalf of Downs Syndrome Kerry. Last year the ‘Ballymac Run’ raised a total of €1,301.60 for the charity and they’re hoping to equal or better that this year.

In a break with tradition last year, the organisers invited Honda 50, 70 and 90 owners to join them and this not only swelled the crowd on the run but also the donations to the charity bucket.

Ó Riada’s Bar and Restaurant in Ballymacelligott is the starting and finishing point. This year the run will pass through: Ballycarty, Gortatlea, Farranfore, Currow, Cordal and Castleisland before heading back to Ó Riada’s.

The runs usually take in a 30 mile circuit and last about an hour. The event is one of a half dozen or so in the long-standing Friday evening classic runs throughout Kerry organised by the Kingdom Veteran Vintage & Classic Car Club and all are free to enter.

All enquiries about the event will be taken by George on: 087 28 14 545 or by Lucy on 087 41 41 158.

The Kingdom Veteran Vintage & Classic Car Club began its life as the Kerry Veteran Car Club in September 1979 after a meeting of vintage car enthusiasts at Farranfore Airport.

Some of those present at that founders meeting were: Tom Twohill (RIP ), John Mitchell, Francie Cantillon, Tom Gleasure (RIP), Pat Gleasure, P. J. O Riordan, Paudie Finnerty, Myles Foley (RIP) Joe Ryan (RIP), Colm Foley (RIP), John Gill, Mick Ahern and John Naughton.
