Cordal/Scart take Division 6 crown

-

IN an open sporting game, played in Fitzgerald stadium, Cordal/ Scartaglin got off to a dream start, in this East Region Under 14 Division 6 league final, and built a lead in the first ten minutes.

Cordal / Scartaglin opened the scoring with points and followed with Keelan O’Donoghue and Conor Kerins rattling the net twice in the first ten minutes, giving the Spa defence no chance on front of goal.

There were a scatter of points before Cian Murphy opened the Spa account with a point and a well taken goal after a fast upfield move, early in the second quarter – 2-9 to 1-2.

Cordal / Scartaglin increased their lead with a scatter of points, before Spa’s Eoghan Mulvanney made a surging run forward and sent an unstoppable shot to the net. A second Spa rasper just skimmed wide.

Cordal / Scartaglin responded immediately. Keelan O’Donoghue burst forward and after a penetrating solo, picked out Tommy Boyle who goaled. A Spa point left the score at the break: Cordal / Scartaglin 3-14 Spa 2-3.

On resumption, both sides came out with renewed determination. Cordal / Scartaglin pulled further ahead with a number of points and a Keelan O’Donoghue goal, in the third quarter while Spa’s Eoghan Mulvanney found the target for a goal and a point.

However, it was Cordal / Scartaglin’s night. A Conor Kerins goal, added to furter points, increased the Cordal/Scartaglen lead. As full time approached, Taylor O’Donoghue netted the ball for Cordal / Scartaglin’s sixth goal.

Spa, to their credit, played wth determination to the final whistle and were rewarded with a Ruairi O’Connor goal. Final score: Cordal/Scartaglen 6-21 Spa 4-5.

Sean O’Sullivan, chairman East Kerry Coiste na nÓg, presented the trophy to the Cordal / Scartaglin team joint captains, Nathan O’Rourke and Sean O’Connor.
