Rosie to run first 10k for her late dad

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

AN ambitious Tralee woman is set on raising as much money as she possibly can this Sunday when she lines up for her first ever 10km run in memory of her father who sadly and suddenly passed away of a heart attack in May of this year.

Rosie Tull, who lost her dad Mark on May 6 of this year, a day after her birthday, says she is ‘absolutely petrified’ at the thought of the Rose 10km event but says she is fiercely determined to get around the course and help raise awareness and funds for the Irish Heart Foundation.

“You don’t realise the great work and the difference that these charities can do and make until it happens to you. I’m just so proud to be raising money for such a great cause. They just work so hard,” Rosie said.

The 25-year-old, who works in the Brandon Hotel, has so far raised close to €200 of her €250 online target, and with a few sponsorship cards still to come in, she says she’s thrilled with how things have gone.

“Honestly, it’s been brilliant. Even the smallest amount that I can raise will at least help somebody somewhere, so that’s my aim, to raise as much as I possibly can and hope that it helps some small way.”

As she nervously prepares to lace up her shoes on Sunday morning, she says that she can take comfort in the support of her family in the UK and that she knows her dad will be watching over her.

“It’s been very tough since dad passed away. I’ve been back and forth to see my family in England and even though I can’t move back home to be with them, at least by running this 10k, this is something I can maybe do for them,” she said.

“Running the 10k was actually one of my New Year’s Resolutions so by doing this, I hope I can make myself proud and hopefully, I can make my dad and family proud too,”
