Dr Crokes clinch final berth

-

PROMOTION and relegation issues are becoming a little clearer following Round 10 of the Credit Union Senior Football League last weekend but there are still plenty back games to be played in the coming two weekends before the final round of games are played.

Dr Crokes have clinched a place in the Division 1 final following a comprehensive victory over Templenoe and the second final place will be decided when Templenoe take on Austin Stacks in the final round of games. At the other end of the table, Glenbeigh-Glencar’s victory over Legion condemns the Killarney side to the second division next year and they will be joined by Kenmare.

In Division 2, Rathmore’s victory over fellow promotion hopefuls St Marys sees them promoted to Division 1 with 15 points and St Marys who finish up with a game at home to Emmets, look like joining them on 13 points as do An Ghaeltacht (12 points), who have a game in hand with Listowel Emmets next weekend.

There is nothing decided at the bottom where St Michaels Foilmore’s win over An Ghaeltacht has thrown the South Kerry side a lifeline. Finuge, Laune Rangers and Listry are all in a battle to avoid the drop with crucial back games this weekend.

In Division 3, Currow (14 points), who have a back game with St Senans next weekend, can clinch promotion with victory in that game, St Pats and Annascaul and Ardfert, are still very much in the running for promotion.

At the bottom, Tarbert are already relegated, while Beale will have to win their back game with Ardfert to stay in Division 3. St Senans, Dromid and Brosna will all be hoping to win their respective back games to avoid the drop.

In Division 4, long time joint leaders Na Gaeil and Fossa stay top of the table. Ballymac and Skellig Rangers are just behind the leaders, but both have play the top two in their next game.

Fossa play Skellig Rangers in Fossa next weekend in Round 10 while Na Gaeil travel to Ballymac the following weekend in their back game. At the bottom, Moyvane are relegated to Division 5 next season while Valentia on two points have two games in hand. Churchill and Scartaglin are also in the drop zone.

There are still a number of teams in line for promotion in Division 5 with Castlegregory (15 Points), who have a back game with Asdee next weekend, favourites to go up as champions.

Rathmore and Duagh, are tied in second place on fourteen points and they meet in the final Round. Tuosist on twelve points, play lowly Ballyduff in a back game next weekend and finish up home to Cromane and they would appear to be favourites to take a promotion spot.

The final round of the league is pencilled in for September 25, but should Kerry exit the All Ireland Championship at the semi final stage, then Round 11 will be played on the weekend of September 4 as per fixtures calendar. THE CCC has drawn up a football fixtures plan with regard to the three different scenarios in relation to the progress of the Kerry senior and minor football teams in their respective championships.

Hopefully, of course, both teams will advance to the All-Ireland Finals on September 18 but fixture plans have been put in place to accommodate all eventualities such as the seniors advancing on their own or the minors advancing on their own or, dare I mention it, should neither side advance to the finals.

Plans for all three scenarios in relation to the senior and club championships and the final round of the county leagues have been circulated to all clubs and all team managers should be well aware by now of the various permutations.
