High fives to the Recovery Haven supporters

A LOCAL fundraising walk held in Listowel over the weekend, in aid of Recovery Haven Kerry (RH), proved such a success that organisers are already turning their thoughts to holding the event again next year, such was the fantastic support they received.

Over 70 people braved the elements on Saturday morning, as they arrived to test their mettle in a 5km fun run/walk around Listowel Town Park, with all funds from the day going towards the work of Recovery Haven, which provides emotional support for those whose lives have been affected by cancer.

“We were very happy with it, we really didn’t think we’d get as many people as we did, because the weather was so bad; everything went off great, everyone was in great form and the generosity and the support of the local people,” said Siobhán Dowling, one of the organisers behind the day.

Siobhán, who only got involved with Recovery Haven when she attended a wig fitting with a friend who was suffering from cancer, said that the experience opened her eyes to the amazing and tireless work being done in the centre by the staff and volunteers.

She knew then that she wanted to help out in any way that she could.

“Without events such as these, organisations like Recovery Haven just simply wouldn’t be able to continue to do the great work that they do; they (RH) couldn’t have been more helpful and supportive, it really made us feel appreciated,” she finished.
