- By TADHG EVANS

AN incredible haul of 17 medals was plundered by Kerry cyclists in Kanturk at the weekend, as the All-Ireland Youth Cycling Championships were coloured with generous dollops of green and gold.

Castlegregory’s Tom Moriarty, who claimed victory in a road race in Normandy in May, picked up his third consecutive gold in the road race, and the O’Leary Stone Kanturk starlet again ascended to the top of the podium by trumping all opponents in the time trial.

A silver medal in the criterium brought Tom’s national tally to a hugely impressive 18 medals.

Eoghan Pattwell from Killarney is a colleague of Tom’s at O’Leary Stone Kanturk, and the under-14 cyclist claimed three golds at the weekend, one for the criterium, and two more in team events.

The club achieved further success in the under-16 team category, with Thomas Dore of Duagh and Ardfert’s David Fitzgerald helping them to gold.

Seán Barrett of Scartaglin & Manor West iBike took his first national medal with bronze in the under-14 time trial, a trick repeated twice by his fellow clubman Kieran Coggins in both time trial and criterium.

Killarney’s Shane Galvin won the under-12 road race, and took bronze in the criterium, while his brother Patrick also finished third in the under-13 road race.

Ronan Leahy and Thomas Gould brought golds to their native Listowel with victory in an under-13s team race, and Tom O Connor of Duagh took another team gold at under-15, bringing Kerry’s tally of golds to 11 for the stunningly successful weekend.
