Ventry women in running for IFTAs

-

TWO Ventry women, both named Louise, have their work in the running for IFTA awards this October. The Irish Film and Television Awards recognise excellence in television production.

Louise Ní Fhiannachta, from Baile ’n Cóta, has been nominated for the Best Director award for her work on Eipic - a critically acclaimed teenage musical drama, which starred local girl Roisín Ní Chéilleachair from Dun Chaoin. Louise was the recipient of the inaugural Irish Times Women’s Podcast Woman to Watch Award in April this year. Eipic is also nominated in the Children’s and Irish language categories of the IFTA Awards.

Louise Ní Chonchúir, from Mám an Óraigh, works as Production Manager on the Danger Mouse animation series which has been nominated in the Best Animation and Sound Categories. She started work as a production assistant after completing her degree in Dun Laoghaire, IADT and has since progressed to production manager.

The awards will be presented at an event to be held in Dublin on October 7. TRANSITION Corca Dhuibhne (TCD) is looking for volunteers to help people attending the at Dingle Food Festival to dispose of surplus food in compost bins. This is part of the greening of the festival initiative a co-operation between TCD and the festival.

As well as encouraging food vendors to use compostable cutlery and containers, the initiative aims to make the public aware of compost bins and encourage their use. This has been a problem at the festival in the past with paper and compostable material going into the same bins as general rubbish.

To make this work requires manpower and TCD are appealing for volunteers to give two hours on the weekend. Email ttcorcadhuibhne@gmail.com or call Darach on 087-2153758 stating when you’d be able to help out. THE people from the Dingle Distillery in Milltown got an award to lift their spirits last Thursday when the quality of their pot still vodka was recognised at the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards 2016 in Dublin.

Dingle Vodka won platinum in the craft spirits category of the awards, hosted by celebrity chef Rachel Allen in the Mansion House. The distillery’s vodka and gin are already recognised as premium products but this award will boost their marketing efforts. The distillery also enjoyed a valuable splash of publicity last year when Camilla Parker Bowles of the English royal household sipped a Dingle ginlaced ‘Duchess’ cocktail during a visit to Galway.

Elliot Hughes, who collected the award, thanked the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards for “this acknowledgement of our hard work and dedication to our craft”.
