Club Championships take centre stage this weekend

-

THIS weekend is a big weekend for teams involved in the Club Championships with semi-finals down for decision at Intermediate and Junior Premier level on Sunday next. Extra-time applies in all games in the event of a draw.

INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The semi-finals of the Intermediate Championship form a double bill in Fitzgerald Stadium where Desmonds play Kenmare at 2pm and Templenoe play An Ghaeltacht at 3:30.

Desmonds defeated Brosna by two points in Brosna in Round 1 and made home advantage count in the quarter finals when defeating neighbours Currow by a point in the quarter finals. Opponents Kenmare were on the road for both of their games defeating Gneeveguilla by ten points in Round 1 and then Spa by four points in the quarter finals. Both these sides played in Division 1 of the League this year where Desmonds finished mid table but Kenmare, without county player Stephen O’Brien for most games, were relegated having won three games. This is a game that certainly could go either way.

The second semi-final could be the game of the weekend. Templenoe have been a revelation this year narrowly missing out on a place in the Division 1 final while An Ghaeltacht have clinched promotion to the top Division for 2017. Templenoe’s two games have been away from home defeating Glenflesk in Round 1 by nine points and then St Michaels-Foilmore by eight points in the quarter finals. Meanwhile, An Ghaeltacht were also on the road for theie games when defeating Laune Rangers by two points in the opening Round and then doing well to hand Ardfert a five points beating in Ardfert.
