STEPPING OUT AT THE INEC FOR RATHMORE GAA

-

RATHMORE GAA Committee member Fintan Twomey has described Thursday night’s ‘Rathmore GAA and Rathmore Ladies GAA Strictly Come Dancing’ as an occasion that ‘ brought the community together in a way that hasn’t been done in years.’

A superb attendance of more than 800 people graced the INEC in Killarney to catch a glimpse of the 12 pairs who braved the dancefloor on the night, and Fintan was thrilled at the community spirit on show on the night.

“The night was about far more than just fundraising. I think first and foremost we got lots of people from Rathmore together for a wonderful night of craic; it was a great night for our community, and it’s the first time in a long time we got so many people from the area together for a celebration as big as this.”

The competitive action unfolded in front of a star studded panel of judges consisting of Kerry Ladies’ Captain Aisling Desmond; journalist Aidan O’Connor; local model Margaret Kelliher, and renowned Irish dancer Kelly McDonnell.

All the competitors impressed in their own way, but the judges picked Sheila McCarthy and Arthur Moynihan as winners, with Elaine O’Leary and John Burns taking the public vote.

Fintan told The Kerryman that the night’s events received two thumbs up from everyone who made it to Killarney for the festivities.

“There hasn’t been a bad word about it, it’s been positive feedback all round,” he said.

“As well as bringing everyone together, our aim was to raise funds for Rathmore’s GAA clubs, and with such a fine attendance you can be sure we achieved that goal.”

“I’d like to thank the dancers, as well as all our sponsors for their support, and I must mention creative directors Joe Burkett and Joanna O’Connor for their fine work.”
