It’s all for the cause as Danny prepares to head back to the altar

- By DÓNAL NOLAN

HOW far would Danny Healy Rae actually go to achieve one of the main aims of his hugely-successful manifesto? Further than most chaps for sure. He’s only going ahead and getting married one more time – in the interest of creating nothing less than new jobs in the county.

That’s a good excuse for bigamy on the best of days, but at least Danny isn’t going breaking any Godly or manmade laws. His looming nuptials on Saturday in The Sneem Hotel are entirely fictional in a spirit of fun to help raise money for a local initiative it is hoped will attract jobs to Sneem.

Playing the character Sylvester Pocock, Danny will be joined by his best man Micky Pocock (played by Sonny Egan) at the top of the aisle for his marriage to the beautiful Cindy Piggott (as played by local business woman Margaret Christian.

All that remains to make it the society wedding of the year is a guestlist bursting with hundreds up for the craic. That’s why Sneem Enterprise Centre is inviting everyone to attend to raise vital funds towards the Working in Sneem project set to establish ‘state-of-the-art’ office spaces in the old Ring Ballroom comlpex.

“I am delighted to be able to give all the support that I can to the people of Sneem or anywhere in rural Ireland to help them secure full time employment for their young people so that the can live and work in their own place,” Danny said this week hosting the ‘ hen’ party at his pub in Kilgarvan where the tone was very much set.

Working in Sneem is an initiative of the Sneem Enterprise Centre and the IDA to help skilled people who might want to come home or move to Sneem to connect with companies offering ‘work from home’ jobs.

It’s going to cost €200,000 with the local committee required to generate €25,000 of this. Kerry County Council and the Department of the Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs will support the remainder.

All you need to do to help is to turn up to The Sneem Hotel with your glad rags on for 7.30pm on Saturday.
