Garvey’s initiative attracts 140 on Walk and Talk Programme
GARVEY’S SuperValu got its Walk and Talk show on the road on Saturday morning with an estimated 140-strong participation from the locality.
On a morning which was kind to the planned activity, the gang at Garvey’s and their followers were delighted with the turnout on the first of the six penned in Saturday mornings between 11am and 12noon.
“We were delighted to see so many turning up at the store on the morning but nearly as many again caught up with us and joined in later along the walk,” said spokesperson, John Paul Curtin.
“People seem to be happy to have the opportunity to get out and walk and talk with neighbours and friends. Several of the people on the walk remarked on the community spirit around the place at the gathering and during the walk itself,” Mr. Curtin added.
After a warm-up exercise provided by R&R Fitness, the multitude headed off out ‘ the country’ and took in the town park on their travels.
There were thousands of photographs and hundreds of selfies taken along the route.
As part of the six-week programme, all participants can avail of a free, high intensity class and weigh in every Tuesday night between 8pm and 9pm at R&R Fitness.
“It went a lot better that we had hoped as we weren’t sure what the weather was going to be like. Next week we have Limerick woman, Claire Scanlon joining us. Claire was a leader on Operation Transformation last year and we’re looking forward to having her and the gang from yesterday and more next Saturday morning,” said John Paul in conclusion.
On Saturday, February 25th the participants will undertake a guided walk of Glanageenty led by former world Hill running champion, John Lenihan by way of celebrating people’s involvement in the programme. John Paul Curtin can be contacted at Garvey’s SuperValu or on 087 93 11 692.
