Kerry through to McGrath Cup final

-

KERRY qualified for the McGrath Cup final following a deserved 1-13 to 1-9 victory over Cork in Mallow on Sunday last.

Kerry, with Jack Savage in fine form, led by 1-8 to 0-5 at the break, the penalty goal coming from James O’Donoghue and despite Cork getting a goal of their own during the second half, Kerry retained their advantage and ran out deserving winners.

Kerry now meet Limerick in the final on Sunday next at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick. The venue was decided on the toss of a coin.

A double bill at the Gaelic Grounds will also see Kerry Hurlers take on Limerick in the CoOpSuperstores.ie Munster Senior Hurling League in the opening game followed by the McGrath Cup final (times for both to be confirmed).

Kerry then has a break of two weeks before opening their Allianz League campaign away to Donegal on February 5. The remaining League games are home to Mayo in Austin Stack Park on February 11 under lights; home to Monaghan in Fitzgerald Stadium on February 26; away to Roscommon on March 5 and then after a two-week break, three games on the trot starting with a home game against Dublin in Austin Stack Park under lights on March 18; away to Cavan in Breffini Park on March 26 and home to Tyrone in Fitzgerald Stadium on April 2. The League final is fixed for April 9. FIXTURES planning for the upcoming season has been ongoing since before Christmas and following the annual meeting with the hurling clubs of the county last week the CCC has signed off on the Master Fixtures schedule for the coming season.

That Fixtures Plan was due to be put before delegates for ratification at Tuesday night’s county committee meeting. Fixtures for the Credit Union Senior Football League have already been published and circulated to clubs.

There’s a new draw this year and the winners of the Division 1 title for the last two years – Dr Crokes and Austin Stacks – are scheduled to meet in Round 1 which is pencilled in for March 19 with Round 2 the following weekend.

Similar to last year, all rounds of the League are due to be played by the last week in September at the latest and should Kerry not be involved in the All Ireland Final then the final round of games is scheduled for August 27.

The various Club Championships are due to commence on April 16 at which stage all clubs will have played 3 rounds of the League and the Draw for the Club Championships will be made before the end of January. Round 1 of the Senior Football Championship commences on May 14.
