Importance of ‘living’ wills focus of legal seminar
A TOPICAL look at the business of making ‘ living’ wills is to form a key part of a legal seminar open to all to attend in Listowel tonight ( Wednesday).
Living wills - wills that provide family with directions on what to do in the event of people becoming incapacitated - will be tackled at the seminar run by Pierse and Fitzgibbon at the Seanchaí in Listowel at 7.30pm .
The subject will be discussed by Pierse and Fitzgibbon solicitor Caitríona Healy in her talk on ‘Advanced Healthcare Directives’ (legalese for ‘ living’ wills).
It comes at a time when so many are mindful of debilitating illness and its painful effects on family following Brendan Courtney’s moving documentary about stroke-victim father Frank ‘We Need to Talk About Dad’ on RTÉ recently.
Also at the seminar will be incisive advice on the related topic of enduring power of attorney from solicitor Mary Walsh, a talk looking at why and who to choose to look after your affairs in the event of becoming mentally incapacitated.
Solicitor Michael Fitzpatrick will discuss property rights; specifically your responsibilities as a property owner and the steps you may take to protect your property.
Anne Keane will meanwhile analyse the rights of cohabiting couples - in particular the rights on the ending of a relationship as a result of the relationship breaking down or death.
