Doubles for Tralee trainer and Quinn family from Moyvane

-

IT is not easy to upstage trainer Maurice O’Connor, who won on Friday night with his only runner and who won again on Saturday night with his sole entry, but Tralee trainer, Pat McMahon, did just that at Saturday’s meeting by recording a very fine double and, indeed, the Quinn family of Moyvane also got into the act by also pulling off a very nice double.

The second of Pat McMahon’s winners, Send It Jay, actually recorded the fastest time of the night, which was 28.74 on going rated .10 slow; indeed, this was the fastest time of the entire week as well.

Send It Jay took a flier from trap 2 in what was the seventh race ((A3 525) and he totally dominated thereafter, winning by six lengths from Oreo Girl.

McMahon initiated his double in the fourth race (A6 525) with Send It Columba, a litter brother to Send It Columba. This fellow also timed his break to perfection from trap 2 and he, too, won unchallenged – by five lengths from Feohanagh Rodger in 29.13.

Both winners are owned by Pat McMhon’s son, Vincent.

Turning to the Quinn family double, it was initiated in the first race (S8 325) by Ask Da Boys, jointly owned by Thomas and Alan Quinn, This fellow very quickly established control from trap 3 and he raced home five lengths ahead of Cape Braveheart in a smart 17.64 (.05 fast).

The Quinn family double was completed in the fifth race, which was also over the sprint distance (S6 class), by Mainroad Katiet, a litter sister to Ask Da Boys.

Owned by James Quinn, she, too, was a 6/4 joint favourite and she also spread-eagled the field, winning by six lengths from Jeffs Lassie in another hot time – 17.66.

In relation to trainer Maurice O’Connor, he followed up Friday’s victory with Cloud Buster by winning the third race (A7 525) with a litter brother, Cooneen Jack. This fellow was making his competitive bow and he impressively overcame a pretty average start to get up on the line for a head victory over Southern Spark in 18.14.

Cooneen Jack is, like Cloud Buster, jointly owned by Seamie and Kevin McNamara, of Castleisland.

Other winners: Devon Pluto, 29.36; Kilburn Dude, 28.94; Lakota Promise, 29.21; Skips Rocket, 29.13.
