Youthful enthusiasm bubbles over at Scór Chiarraí Thiar
YOUTHFUL enthusiasm was bubbling over as Halla Lios Póil hosted Scór na bPaistí Chiarraí Thiar on Saturday night – and that was before the competitors ever got on stage.
The event, organised by Marie Dorgan with help from CLG Lios Póil Chairman Seamas Ó Grifín and the West Kerry GAA Board, marked a return for the contest which hasn’t been held for several years.
With Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh in Ballyferriter commanding centre stage on the cultural front over the weekend, the Scór competition was a little quieter than it might have been. But as Seamas Griffin said, there’s so much going on in West Kerry throughout the year it’s impossible to organise an event without clashing with something or other.
Lack of a capacity audience didn’t dampen the enthusiasm, competitive spirit – or indeed the high spirits – of the young performers who were gambolling like mad things around the hall, occasionally taking time out for serene practice sessions amid the din. The members of Club Lios Póil’s instrumental music group were taking things more seriously and they made off a side room where they could practice in glorious peace before coming out to win the title in their section of the competition.
Meanwhile, even though she wasn’t tall enough to reach the microphone, six-year-old Evanne Kerin stepped on board a vision to win the solo singing section with a very impressive rendition of Spancil Hill.
“There wasn’t a huge crowd on the night but we were delighted with how it went and hopefully it will grow over the coming years,” said Seamas. Buaiteoirí Scór na Bpaistí: Ceol Uirlise: David Keane, Simone Lynch, Aisling Ní Dhubhaigh, Eileen Diggin & Aoibheann Ní Ghealbháin (Club Lios Póil)
