Rathmore have too much for Currow

CURROW hosted Rathmore on Saturday in round 3 of the East Kerry Senior League. Played on a very heavy pitch Rathmore raced into a 3 point lead with scores from Mark Reen and John Moynihan before Currow got off the mark with points from John McMahon and Padraig O’Shea.

Mark T Reen then scored a goal for the away side and Mark Reen add 3 further points to give Rathmore a five-point lead. Currow then had their best spell of the match and ended the half strongly scoring 1-4 without reply, just before the break.

Timmy O’Leary notched up 1-1, John McMahon 0-2 and Padraig O’Shea added points to level the match, 1-6 a piece. Rathmore responded with a point followed, on the stroke of half time, by a John Moynihan goal. Half time score Rathmore 2-7 Currow 1-6.

Scores were harder to come by early in the second half. However, both sides found the net in the last quarter. John Moynihan scored his second goal of the day while John McMahon scored a goal and point for Currow before Jack Scanlon completed the home side’s scoring with two late points.

WEST KERRY GAA DIVISION 2

IN an entertaini­ng and evenly balanced Division 2 game, Firies welcomed Templenoe to Farranfore on Sunday.

Firies started the brighter and had a goal by Ed Kerrisk and 2 points on the score board before Templenoe opened their account. Templenoe then had a period of scoring dominance, notching up 6 points without reply. Firies responded and finished the half stronger to lead by 2 points at the break, Firies 1-6 Templenoe 0-7.

On the restart, Firies increased their lead with 5 unanswered points going into the last quarter. Templenoe replied with 2 points and when the game looked beyond them, the visitors hit 2 goals Teddy Doyle and Stephen O’Sullivan on target, to snatch the victory by the minimum.

The East Kerry Senior league reached round 3 last weekend. In division 1A Kilcummin retained their unbeaten record, having won 2 games and ending level against Killarney Legion. Gleflesk are unbeaten in Division 1B, with 2 games played. Unfortunat­ely, due to unplayable pitches, both games in Division 1B were called off. In Division 2 Templenoe and Firies are on equal league points. However, Templenoe have a game in hand, against Scartaglen, which is fixed for next Sunday. THE East Kerry Scór na nÓg Finals, sponsored by Killarney Credit Union, take place in Killarney Racecourse Auditorium on Friday March 3 at 4pm. HEARTIEST congratula­tions to St Brendans (The Sem) team and management on retaining the Corn Uí Mhuirí last Saturday. Congratual­tions also to Liebherr team and management on winning the All Ireland Inter-Firm Final last Saturday.
