Ballyduff, Kenmare and Glenflesk win futsal titles

THE County Finals of U-15 boys futsal took place recently in the Nagle Rice Community Centre. In Group 1 Ballyduff proved too strong for both Kenmare and Glenflesk with Moyvane/Knockanure also defeating both these teams leaving the last game as the decider. Ballyduff topped the group with a 3-1 victory over Moyvane/ Knockanure who qualified for the play-off game.

Group 2 produced very close games Ballyheigu­e and Duagh/ Lyre drawing 1-1 and Blennervil­le/ Ballyard and Miltown/Listry also drawing 3-2 in first round games. In the remaining games Miltown/ Listry and Blennervil­le/Ballyard saw off the other two teams leaving them tied at top of the table thus requiring a replay to separate them. Miltown/Listry came out in top with 4-0 win.

In the play-off game Moyvane/ Knockanure won the bronze medals with a 4-2 win over Blennervil­le/ Ballyard who received the Certs.

The final produced some excellent soccer with both teams giving it their all in their quest to collect the county title and two goals by Seanie McGrath gave Ballyduff the gold medals with an excellent Miltown/ Listry getting the silver medals. FUTSAL U-13 Girls THE girls U-13 futsal finals saw six teams compete in round robin format in Duagh. All 15 games were very close with excellent skill on view.

Kenmare, Moyvane/Knockanure and Duagh/Lyre all defeated Glenflesk, Ardfert/Kilmoyley, and Blennervil­le/Ballyard. Kenmare and Moyvane/Knockanure defeated Duagh/Lyre on 2-1 score lines leaving Duagh/Lyre as bronze medal winners with Blennervil­le/ Ballyard defeating Ardfert/Kilmoyley 1-0 to win the Certs.

The final was an absolute thriller and as the game looked destined for extra time the youngest player on the court Helena O’Donoghue got on the end of a brilliant move to score to give Kenmare the county title and gold medals with Moyvane/Knockanure getting silver medals. FUTSAL U-13 Boys These finals were held at Nagle Rice Community Centre in Miltown with the four teams who had previously qualified. The first semi-final between Duagh/Lyre and Spa Muckross was a very close encounter with Spa Muckross winning through by 2-1 with Duagh/Lyre striking the crossbar and post.

The second semi-final saw Knocknagos­hel lead on three occasions but the never say die attitude of Glenflesk saw them equalise with a couple of minutes to go and bring the game to extra time where they scored the crucial goal to win by 4-3.

The play-off game saw Knocknagos­hel win 3-2 to claim bronze medals and Duagh/Lyre pick up the Certs.

The final produced an exciting encounter with both defences standing firm and it finished 0-0. In extra-time Glenflesk scored two early goals with Spa Muckross replying before half time. In the second period Glenflesk scored to close out the game and claim the title and gold medals on a score of 3-1 against a gallant Spa Muckross team. ART THE ART County Finals took place on Saturday last at Listowel Convent and as usual there was a large number of children competing from all areas and the standard was extremely high. HANDWRITIN­G THE U-10 and U-12 Handwritin­g County Final took place in Listowel with a very high standard.
