KEANES Supervalu Killorglin registered their 11th win of the League last Saturday with an 11-point home win against Dublin Lions in front of a large home crowd.

It took Dublin Lions the first quarter to settle with KSV leading from the start and with four minutes played were ahead 10-5. James Weldon rotated his players throughout the first quarter and some great offence by KSV with threes from Mark O’Shea and Andrew Fitzgerald, along with scores from Darragh Jones and Garny Garcia, helped Killorglin to a 17-11 first quarter lead.

The second quarter saw Jones open the scoring from the free throw line but Dublin Lions’ Chris McNiarney hit two three-pointers to narrow the lead. Fitzgerald added four points early in the quarter for the hosts but Lions were only one point behind with seven minutes to half time. Cian O’Shea netted a three and another following a fast break extending KSV’s lead to 27-21. In the final minutes both teams added points and the first half finished with a rebound basket from Garny Garcia to see Killorglin lead 38-27 at half time.

The second half began with both teams trading scores as Garcia put in a strong performance under the boards on both ends and registering ten points in the third quarter. KSV extend their lead to 15 points, 55-40, with 3.50 left, and Ian McLoughlin completed the third quarter scoring with two free throws as KSV took a 57-40 lead into the final quarter.

Dublin Lions putt pressure on Keane’s ball carrier Mark O’Shea but with Killorglin’s under-18 men making their debut they put down a final quarter to be proud of.

Although it took almost three minutes for Killorglin to score through Mark O’Shea their lead varied from 10 to 15 points with Liam Croke, Ewan Weldon and Keelin Houlihan registering on the score sheet as Killorglin closed out the win.
