To mark National Tree Week 2017 we are organizing a Nature and Forest Walk here in the Town Park in Abbeyfeale, on Saturday, March 11 at 12 noon. Our local nature experts Anneke Vrieling, Lorcan Curtin and Tony Kennelly will attend on the day to speak about the social, economic and environmen­tal benefits of Forestry and natural habitats. Everyone welcome. Dress for the great outdoors.

MOCK WEDDING

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

Preparatio­ns are continuing for the annual Abbeyfeale St Patrick’s Day Parade. Comhaltas Teampall An Ghleanntái­n will perform in The Square before the parade which is set to leave from Mountmahon at 4pm, led by the Rathkeale Brass Band. The parade will proceed down Main Street and past the reviewing stand before disbanding by the council car park. Prizes will be awarded for Best Float, Best Youth Entry and Best Decorated Window. Participan­ts are reminded that they are responsibl­e for the insurance of their individual vehicles and will be asked to sign a waiver to this effect before being permitted to take part in the parade. Most insurance companies will add this to their cover, free of charge, when requested.

HARRIERS 2017 REPORT

The Abbeyfeale Harriers 2017 Hunting Festival has concluded for another year. Hunt clubs from Limerick, Cork, Kerry, Armagh, Tyrone and Wexford participat­ed in the weeks hunting. Hunt supporters from all over Ireland and beyond enjoyed the weeks sport and socialisin­g at this annual get together. A donation has been made to the Irish Cancer Society. The Abbeyfeale Harriers would like to give a special thanks to all those that supported the hunt festival including:The clubs that participat­ed. The hunt followers who came from all over Ireland and beyond. The publicans who kindly sponsored the food after each hunt. The Scartaglin Harriers for hosting the hunt meet in Scartaglin. And most importantl­y to the farmers and landowners in the areas that were hunted and who have always been very supportive. All of your support is greatly appreciate­d. We would like to wish everybody good health and fortune for the coming year, and we’ll look forward to meeting up at the hunting festival again next year.
