Electric track trip for Spa NS

THE Kingdom Greyhound Stadium was a hive of activity and excitement last Saturday evening as a huge crowd attended Spa National School’s ‘Night at the Dogs’ celebration.

It was an action packed evening from start to finish and the atmosphere was electric.

M.C on the night was Ger Carmody who ensured the busy schedule of activities ran like clockwork. As well as a busy twelve race card – each one generously sponsored by a local business – the committee also organised a number of novel activities for everyone to enjoy.

Local athlete Ciara Tierney went head to head with a greyhound in the nail biting ‘Human v Greyhound race. Former Kerry footballer Mark O Shea and Kerry hurler Philip Lucid battled it out in the ‘G.A.A. Legends Soloing Challenge’ with the judges calling that one as a tie.

Younger visitors on the night also enjoyed trips to the bouncy castles, free face painting and to the school’s Junior Entrepreneur Project display. The Parents Association hosted a monster raffle with some fantastic prizes presented to the

One of the big winners was young Pádraig Healy, a sixth class student, who scooped the €500 prize after the ‘Big Buster Race’.

However, the highlight of the night was the running of the ‘Spa N.S. Wheelbarrow 575 challenge’. This saw 48 students from the school participating in a relay race around the track with eight local celebrities completing the final leg by pushing a wheelbarrow and student passenger to the winning line.

School Principal Peter Linehan said the Spa NS was delighted with the success of the night.
