Muire Gan Smál U-11 girls to represent Kerry in CU quiz finals in Dublin

-

WOULD you know which famous writer used the pseudonym ‘Boz’ or which country the NIKKEI Stock Market Index is associated with?

You probably would when asked in a casual manner.

However, in the white heat of competition, against the clock and another team of quiz specialists in a hall full of spectators. Would you?

And knowing that if your answer wasn’t water-tight it could cost your team its place in an All-Ireland Final. Would you really?

A team of U-11 girls from Scoil Muire Gan Smál won the Kerry finals of the Credit Union Table Quiz in the Ballyroe Hotel on Sunday.

And the above questions were used as tie-breakers. They might well have been dream wreckers but for the fact that the Castleisland girls, after months of preparation by teacher Marie Murphy, were up to the challenge on the day. They came up with Charles Dickens and Japan as the correct answers.

The competition started out with 62 teams in Kerry and the Scoil Muire girls came first.

The girls will now go to the All Ireland finals on Sunday, April 2, in the RDS in Dublin where they will represent Kerry in their age group.

They have been trained by their teacher, Ms.Marie Murphy over the last few months and she has done a super job with her brightest and best.

The team includes: Eilís Enright, Bella Harmon, Colene O’Callaghan and Bláithín O’Mahony. Good luck to them in Dublin on April 2.
