KRSAC CELEBRATES 25TH BIRTHDAY
KRSA CENTRE PROVIDED 2,000 COUNSELLING SESSIONS IN 2016
KERRY Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (KRSAC) celebrates its 25th year in existence in 2017, and the centre staged its first celebratory event for this momentous year on Saturday last, March 11.
Soprano and harpist Marina Cassidy led an evening of music and dance at the School House at Muckross House & Gardens, and Vera O’Leary of KRSAC said the night promoted hope, healing, support and joy.
“We provide a range of free professional services to men and woman affected by sexual violence, and our centre received 1,500 calls, 2,000 counselling sessions, and 1,000 advocacy hours in 2016,” she said.
“The production on Saturday represented the struggle to find your voice when you need to be heard, and understanding how to move forward.”
More than 130 guests attended on the night to enjoy the evening’s performances, with the event concluding with hot and cold canapés for the attendees.
Ms O’Leary thanked the artists who donated their time and talent for the evening’s events, and acknowledged the board at Muckross Estate for providing the evening’s venue.
She was keen to make special mention of the work of the centre’s volunteers and professionals, saying their contributions have changed lives. She also stressed that KRSAC needs the public’s continued generosity so it can respond to the many men and women in need of its services.
The Ring of Kerry Cycle committee chose the centre as one of the main beneficiaries of its 2017 event, and you can register to cycle for KRSAC at www.ringofkerrycycle.ie.
KRSAC welcomes all men, women and children who need its services; you can Freephone the centre at 1800 633 633, or visit their website, KRSAC. com, for information on the services it provides.
