Cairde set to line out for charity

-

PEOPLE in West Kerry are fully behind a new national charity providing support for people with mental heath issues, which will be launched in West Kerry at the end of the month.

Tadhg Ó Beaglaíóch , co-founder of Cairde - Friends Matter, whose father is from West Kerry is bringing the launch of the Cairde Movement back to his father’s home place. The registered charity provides peer-to-peer support for people with life-limiting anxiety and depression.

The charity will launch the Cairde Movement with a series of sporting events, giving people an opportunity to lend support while enjoying the best of what West Kerry has to offer in terms of sports and activities.

The schedule of activities will include GAA, soccer and rugby tournaments, a Slea Head cycle, the Cairde golf classic in Ceann Sibéal and a climb of Mount Brandon. Each of the events have been organised with support from the local clubs.

The clubs assisting with the organisation of the events include Cumann Caide na Gaeltachta, Dingle Bay Rovers, Corca Dhuibhne Rugby Club, Cumann Rothaíocht Chorca Dhuibhne, Cumann Gailf Ceann Sibéal, and Daingean Uí Chúis CLG. The clubs efforts are supported by the work of Adrian Curran of the Mountain Man outdoor sports shop in Dingle and sponsorship provided by Dingle Crystal.

A highlight of the weekend’s activities will be the inter-county games scheduled for Saturday, April 1st in Pairc an Ághasaigh, Dingle. This will get underway with the Galway Masters v Kildare Masters at 1.30pm, refereed by P. Ó Gríofa. This match will be followed by the much anticipated Kerry Legends 1997-2003 v Galway (refereed by J. Molloy).
