A COMPETITIV­E start to the Division with five of the six victories recorded coming with no less than one score between the sides involved in the end! After seeing their fellow Killarney side Dr Crokes triumph in Croke Park the previous Friday, Legion and Spa left their own mark on the weekend with a very competitiv­e and exciting encounter in Direen on Sunday.

Spa made the better start with Liam Kearney scoring the game’s first goal after seven minutes but Tom Moriarty followed up with a double for the hosts as they went in leading by 2-8 to 2-6 at half-time. Evan Cronin and Craig Hickey had combined well for the visitors’ second goal prior to the break. Dara Moynihan scored Spa’s third goal to level the match up at 3-6 to 2-9 before substitute Conor Keane put Legion back in charge with their third goal at 3-9 to 3-7 after 40 minutes. No less than 10 minutes of injury-time were played as Legion needed to the aid of the goalpost to prevent Moynihan scoring a fourth Spa goal near the end as Jamie O’Sullivan’s accuracy with 10 points was a big factor in the hosts 3-14 to 3-12 win.
