Perfect finale to Michael’s epic run for good causes

A HEARTWARMING tale that started in Dublin just over three months ago reached its final chapter in Tralee this past weekend as Causeway’s Michael McEnerny presented cheques of €5,038 each to the Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and Irish Cancer Society charities.

Michael, whose own mother is currently receiving treatment for cancer, managed to raise the vital funds through a gruelling 200-mile charity run from Dublin to his home town of Causeway, arriving into the village to thunderous applause and tears on Christmas Eve of last year.

“I was absolutely, immensely proud to be presenting these two great charities with over €5,000 each; the fact that I could have my mother there with me and the crew that supported me and got me through the long journey, it felt right and it was a very special moment for me,” said Michael, talking to The

Kerryman on Monday.

“I really did surpass the amount of money that I thought I would collect, I mean, never in my wildest dreams did I expect that I’d raise as much as I did; everything came together for me and the team and, honestly, the whole thing has just been overwhelming.

Michael also assures us that he has something much bigger already up his sleeve for this coming Christmas, but he will be waiting until everything is finalised before announcing the details.
