Mícheál to launch Tidy Towns campaign
LEGENDARY sports broadcaster Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh is in town on Thursday night to launch the opening salvo of Listowel’s campaign to retain its position as Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town for 2017.
None better than the veteran sports commentator and Dún Síon native to set the stage in authoritative fashion for another hugely successful year of beautifying Listowel.
Only trouble you might think now is that it must be pretty hard to find areas still in need of improvement so successful has the group’s work proved for so many year.
But there’s always some little corner in need of beautification and the battle against litter, dog fouling and what have you is never done.
That’s why the group is delighted to have such a figure as Ó Muircheartaigh on hand to launch the 2017 campaign.
It’s taking place at the Lartigue Monorail Museum on Thursday, March 30, next at 7.30pm in a big night for the Tidy Towns that will also see a number of other key speakers.
CE of Kerry County Council Moira Murrell will address the gathering and give an outline of the work the Council undertake each year in supporting communities to keep their areas clean and so much more.
Chairperson of the Listowel Tidy Towns Julie Gleeson will also deliver an address with group secretary Mary Hanlon acting as MC for the event.
2017 begins on a wonderful note for the group after Listowel won the award for Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town for the second year in a row in 2016. But the pressure’s on to retain such a closely-fought placing and the Tidy Towns is appealing for all hands on deck once more.
