SEMINAR A MAJOR SUCCESS AS SOLICITORS DISCUSS WILLS, POWERS OF ATTORNEY AND MORE
KILLARNEY-BASED solicitor Padraig O’Connell has said that the success of last Thursday’s legal advice seminar at the Torc Hotel in Killarney could see similar events held again in future.
The event was organised by Lissivigeen Community Association. Mr O’Connell and colleague Clare O’Donoghue were the main speakers at the seminar, which was superbly attended.
“The main topics that I discussed on the night concerned powers of attorney, enduring powers of attorney, wills, and indeed general legal matters,” Mr O’Connell told The Kerryman. “Clare was there to discuss the Nursing Homes Support Scheme, better known as the Fair Deal scheme, which seemed to be of particular interest to many of those who attended,” he added.
Lissivigeen Community Association approached Mr O’Connell and Ms O’Donoghue recently in relation to speaking at such an event, after the association had encountered significant interest in discussing the aforementioned matters.
“The association came to us saying it was keen on organising this seminar, and the way the whole night went proved just how much interest there was in discussing these matters,” Mr O’Connell said.
“The venue at the Torc Hotel was absolutely packed, and Clare and I were there for around two hours as we fielded the many questions and concerns the public had about wills, the Fair Deal scheme, and more matters.
“We shared with them the information that they felt they wanted and needed to know.”
Although no future plans are set in stone according to Padraig, he said the keen interest shown on Thursday could make similar events possible in future.
“It is hoped that we could hold something like this again in the future,” he said.
We were thinking of doing it maybe twice a year on different matters to the ones discussed on Thursday.
“Nothing is concrete as of yet, but there was a very keen interest last week and I think that bodes well for chances of future seminars.”
