St Pat’s take to the heights of west Kerry for the club’s Dingle Way Challenge fundraiser

-

FROM the dramatic heights of Mount Brandon to the turquoise waters of Cloghane, participants in Blennerville GAA club St Pat’s fifth-annual fundraising Dingle Way Challenge are in for a scenic treat come Sunday, June 4.

320 walked the challenge last year, but with Kerry star Paul Geaney on hand up the Conor Pass on Friday to launch the big 2017 event for the club it’s likely even more will be taking to the slopes on the date.

The good people of Blennerville are making off the landscape they’ve long been looking towards in a fundraiser that is vital to progressing a number of key projects at the club.

“West Kerry was certainly looking at it’s very best when Paul Geaney launched the challenge for us on Friday, for which we were very grateful to him,” St Pat’s Chairman Terry Boyle told The Kerryman.

“It’s a 45km route but there are plenty of options for all level of abilities. We’ll leave Dingle on June 4 over Cosán na Naomh and onto the Gaeltacht’s grounds for our first break. Then, it’s over to the foot of Mount Brandon where walkers will have the choice to cross over the summit or take a route along the southern flank and down into Cloghane on a more gentle incline. But whatever someone feels up to, if it’s just 10km or so, that’s more than ok as it is all about supporting the club,” Terry added.

Buses will be running between Blennerville and west Kerry regularly on the day.

Funds raised from the Challenge will go towards progressing the refurbishment of the old community rooms at the club, a project that is already underway, as well as towards the development of more car-parking spaces.

The registration fee is €50 but free for anyone raising more than €100 through sponsorship cards. The Challenge will culminate in a night of craic back at Quane’s in Blennerville.
