Valentia Island Community Sports Centre a treasure trove of activities for everyone
VALENTIA ISLAND COMMUNITY SPORTS CENTRE-AN AWARENESS INFORMATION NOTICE: The Valentia Island Community Centre is situated in the village of Chapeltown. The construction of the Centre was funded by residents’ subscriptions and government grants. The centre, therefore, belongs to the island and it’s residents, both full and part-time.
The Centre offers the following facilities: A large sports hall facilitating basketball, soccer, badminton, bowls, zumba, tabata, school sports, children’s parties, etc. Additionally, there exists a well equipped gym, meeting room/office and small shop.
The centre’s committee is currently involved in the planning process of up-dating the fitness areas, and on completion, will offer a modern up-to-date facility.
As you can imagine, the running costs of a Community Centre are considerable-heat and light, insurance, maintenance/ repairs and wages etc. Historically,a large proportion of these costs were funded by government grants. These grants have progressively diminished and the centre is now largely responsible for these costs.
The committee is organising a variety show to take place on Saturday, May 20, in the Portmagee Community Centre and your support of this event would be hugely appreciated.
The most effective way to help your Community Centre is to become involved through using this enviable facility.
Should you or any group be interested in viewing the various offerings at the centre, please contact Ursula on 0877918188 or call in to see the facilities that are available.
As the Centre is a community based operation, everyone would be welcome.
