Kerry competitors fly the flag in Argentina and England this weekend

WHILE local rallying interest focuses on the Cartell.ie Rally of the Lakes (see separate story) there is plenty of international rally action happening across the globe with Kerry competitors expected to feature.

Paul Nagle and Kris Meeke resume their World Rally Championship campaign in Argentina. The South American country is happy hunting ground for The Kerry/Tyrone crew, having scored their maiden WRC win there two years ago.

Winners in Mexico and leaders of the Tour de Corse before suffering a mechanical issue, Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle are on something of a positive run.

However team bosses warned about being over confident ahead of the South American counter.

A statement read: “Several factors should prevent anyone from getting too carried away. As in Monte-Carlo, Sweden and Mexico, Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT will only be entering two C3 WRCs. They will be driven by two crews that did not compete here in 2016: Kris Meeke/Paul Nagle and Craig Breen/Scott Martin, the latter will be making their competitive debuts in South America.

This lack of experience will be a genuine disadvantage, since thirteen of the eighteen stages are identical to last year. The only new features are on Tanti – Villa Bustos, contested in the opposite direction, and San Agustin / Villa General Belgrano, which hasn’t been on the itinerary since 2008.”

Closer to home Killarney and District Motor Club members Keith Cronin and Mikie Galvin continue their British Championship quest on the Pirelli International Carlisle Rally in their M-Sport prepared Ford Fiesta.

Cronin is the most successful man in recent Pirelli Rally, who already has two wins chalked against his name. With Killarney’s Galvin calling the notes, the Fiesta R5 driver will be keen to make it a hat-trick on M-Sport’s home ground.
