Rathmore to face Dr Crokes

THE last league round of games in the East Kerry Junior league, sponsored by Kerry Physiother­apy and Rehabilita­tion Centre, Killarney, were played during the week.

Rathmore went through to the Division 1 league final against old rivals Dr Crokes, after coming out on top by a point against neighbours Gneeveguil­la. Three goals were scored by the mid fielders in the first five minutes of the game and Gneeveguil­la scored a late goal from Padraig O’Sullivan to leave one point between the sides at the end.

In Division 2, Glenflesk progressed to the final against Spa, when they won their game against Kilcummin, 2-13 to 1-09. THE Division 1 and 3 Finals of MD O’Shea East Region U16 League are fixed for Monday May 8.

In Division 1, Rathmore have qualified for the Final and await the outcome of Dr Crokes versus Firies semi-final. In Division 3 Beaufort topped the league table and so are through to the Final against the winners of the semi final, Spa V Fossa.

In Division 2, Gneeveguil­la are through to the final and Listry / Keel have reached the semi final. There is a play-off between Glenflesk and Kilcummin, to determine the second team in the Division 2 semi-final. The division 4 final sees Kilgarvan / Tousist take on Dr Crokes B in Kilgarvan. Date TBC. AS part of the celebratio­ns to mark 50 years since the founding of the County Coiste na nÓg, a Parade of Juveniles (from U6 to U16s), from clubs in East Kerry and Mid Kerry GAA clubs will be held in Killarney town next Sunday (May 7) between approximat­ely 11.30am and 1.30pm.

Starting at Fitzgerald Stadium, the boys and girls in their club colours with flags and banners will be led out by a Piper. The Parade will travel down Lewis Road, Plunket Street, High Street and return to Fitzgerald Stadium via St Anns road. Clubs are asked to come out and support their players in the Parade along the route.

The juvenile players with parents and mentors are asked to gather at Fitzgerald Stadium at 11am, via the Lewis Road Entrance only. Final details of the Parade order will be issued to clubs during the week. EAST Kerry/ Kenmare primary school boys skills competitio­n took place during the week. East Kerry schools took part in Dr Crokes pitch last Tuesday.

The standard was excellent with Presentati­on Monastery NS (Matthew Horgan, Senan O’Leary, Eoghan Crowley) team sharing the top team prize with Fossa NS (Ryan O’Leary, Darren Ryan, Patrick Lyons). Evan Brosnan representi­ng Loughguita­ne NS won the individual section.

Kenmare District Board boys skills competitio­n took place on Thursday in Kenmare pitch.

The format was teams of three with all players scores counting. Realt Na Mara NS Tuosist won the team section (Fiachra Breen, Eoghan McCarthy, Sean Treyead) performed superbly on the day. Adam Gull (St Johns NS) secured the individual prize with a fantastic performanc­e.

The Eoghan Ruadh boys skills competitio­n took place in Glenflesk on Friday. Firies NS team (Stephen Palmer, Padraig Fell, Aaron Burke) won the team event with a solid display.

Jack O’Donoghue (Glenflesk NS) won the individual event with a wide range of excellent individual skills on display. Many thanks to all teachers and secondary school students for assisting East Kerry/ Kenmare GDA Vince Cooper in running the events.
