Cashen Vale’s Goad records another impressive victory

KORI Goad recorded another impressive victory in the final of the Under 16 Munster Girls Boxing Championsh­ips in Cork this Sunday.

The 14-year-old Cashen Vale teen boxed out of her skin to beat the impressive Aoife Bohan of the St Paul’s boxing club, Nenagh to secure her place in the All-Ireland Championsh­ips.

This win will be another confidence boost for Kori, ahead of her busy schedule which get underway in the National Stadium next Friday. The Cashen Vale boxer defeated Caoimhe Carthy St Brigids boxing club Kildare 5-0 in the final of the National Junior Girls competitio­n recently and based on her achievemen­ts in that tournament at the National Stadium she was selected to participat­e in the IABA Developmen­t Programme for Female Junior and Youth.

As a member of the Developmen­t Programme she must attend all scheduled training sessions, be committed and participat­e fully in the programme. The IABA Developmen­t Programme is part of a continuous assessment process to select a team to represent Ireland at all forthcomin­g European and World Women’s Youth and Juniors Boxing Championsh­ips.

There was also great news for Patrick McCarthy and Tralee Boxing Club. Patrick has been picked to box for Team Munster in the Hull Box Cup in Hull The Hull Box Cup 2017 is the third Annual Box Cup for Hull Boxing Centre and has grown in participat­ion year on year.

The three-day event is the biggest Olympic Style Boxing event held in the City of Hull and in the history of the Yorkshire Boxing Associatio­n. In 2016 284 Boxers from Multi Nations competed over three days in over 250 bouts.

The Open Class Tournament is open to Male Minors, School Boys, Juniors and Youth Boxers, Born in years 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 and entries will be accepted from any club, which is a federation member of a country that is a member of AIBA.
